Before Sarah was born, there was a north-south wall that separated the kitchen and dining room. I had it removed to allow more light to pass between the two rooms and open up the house a bit. There was a cold air return in that wall, which left a hole in the floor. It was covered with a board that replaced the wall's base plate. Upon removing the 3/8" particle board, my memory was refreshed when I saw the hole in the floor. So I replaced this 4'x4' section to eliminate the hole. (And the 5/8" plywood section was a bit soft in some spots.)
