The original door between the kitchen and laundry room / pantry was a bi-fold. When opened it protruded into the kitchen beside the refridgerator. We decided that a pocket door would a nice improvement. This required opening up the wall behind the fridge to install the pocket door assembly and track. Since this is a load-bearing wall, posts and a beam were installed to carry the load. Of course, in the basement, I installed squash blocks and posts to transfer the load to concrete floor. The soffit and cabinet above the refrigerator were removed and will not be rebuilt. |
